WTA LUXEMBOURG OPEN 2009
The indoor Fortis Open Championships 2009 was held in Luxembourg between the 17th of October and the 25th of October with some really good players like Kim Clijsters from Belgium, Daniela Hantuchova from Slovakia, Anabel Medina Garrigues from Spain and Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark taking part. Caroline was seeded No.1 for the tournament. Some of the wild card entrants and people gaining entry into participation through qualifying rounds were Mandy Minella from host city Luxembourg, Kirsten Flipkens from Belgium, the Italian Maria Elena Camerin and Anne Kremer also from Luxembourg. In what was a totally unexpected draw to the finals, the tournament saw an unseeded entrant Timea Bacsinszky from Switzerland who is ranked 70th in the world clinch the title and her first WTA tour title in her career. She defeated 6th seeded German Sabine Lisicki with score 6-2, 7-5 in the tournament’s final match. In the Doubles category Iveta Benesova and Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová from the Czech Republic beat Renata Voráčová and Vladimíra Uhlířová also from Czech.
