ITALY TAKES FED CUP 09

The 2009 Fed Cup held during the 7th and 8th of November was a complete domination by Italy over the US. Italy won its second Fed Cup beating US 4-0 in Reggio Calabria. Flavia Pennetta whos is ranked No.11 in the world played against 18 year old Melanie Oudin and proved to be too good to beat. In the 1st set Pennetta broke Oudin early to take the lead but Oudin managed to be in the battle but Pennetta won the set 7-5. In the second set Oudin started with 1-0. But Pennetta soon took an immense lead and finished the set 6-2 and won the match consequently. This victory has enabled Pennetta to become the 1st Italian woman to go to the top 10 in the history of tennis. Meanwhile US Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez and Silvia Farina from Italy were presented with the Award of Excellence for the 2009 Fed Cup by the International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum.
