THE UNEXPECTED TURN


The Indianapolis MotoGP race which took place on the 30th August has had a surprise winner after two top players who were at the lead position were unable to finish the race with top positions. MotoGP’s top player Valentino Rossi from Italy crashed out after taking a fast turn when Turn 2 came. On the other hand Dani Pedrosa lost out in the penultimate corner in lap number 4. He was reduced to the 10th position. This opportunity was used well by Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha team who went on to win the championship finishing the race in around 47 minutes and 13 seconds. The first runner up was A. de Angelis of Honda who finished in around 9 seconds later. American N.Hayden secured the third position after finishing 12 seconds later. The advantage for Lorenzo after this match is that the difference in points between him and Valentino Rossi has reduced from a previous 50 to 25 which has increased his chances towards winning the Driver’s championships.

IAAF WORLD ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS


The 12th Athletic Championships conducted by IAAF took place in Berlin between August 15th and 23rd. Events included race walk, discus throw, high jump, pole vault, steeplechase, marathon, long jump, shot put, javelin throw, race 10,000 metres, 5000 metres, relay races and hurdles. In the men’s events Kenenisa Bekele from Ethiopia won the 5000 metres followed by Vincent Kiprop Chepkok from Kenya in the second place. In the high jump event Jaroslav Bába from Czechoslovia got the first place and Jesse Williams of USA obtained the second place. Reese Hoffa from USA topped in the Shot put event while Tomasz Majewski of Poland stood second. Coming to the Women’s events, Ruth Bisibori Nyangau from Kenya secured the first place and Sofia Assefa got the runner up position in the 3000 metre steeplechase. And in the Women’s triple jump Yargeris Savigne Cuba triumphed and Yamilé Aldama from Sudan obtained the second place.

Ashes 2009 match 5 – England sends back aussie empty handed


August 20, the ashes season, match 5 the final thriller which was expected to be a great match turned so. England defeated Australia and conquered the ashes cup for the year 2009. The match was clean and easy for England since they ended it in 4 days. England elected to bat first and scored 332 which included 55 from Strauss and 72 from Bell. Siddle got 4 for 75 and Hilfenhaus got 3 for 71. Australia batted its first innings very poorly getting all out for just 160, katich made reasonable 50. England did exceptional performance with ball leaving figures 5 for 37 by Broad and 4 for 38 by Swann. England played an outstanding second innings of 373 for 9 with contributions of 119 by Trott, 75 by Strauss and 63 by Swann. Australia with a huge target of 546 started the second innings on day 3. The battle was ended by day 4 with England sealing the series by winning the match 5 with 197 runs. Australia got 348 which included 121 by Aussey and 66 by Ponting and lost the series by 2-1. This is an historic and prestigious victory for England.

Ashes 2009 match 4 – chance for series point


August 7, the ashes season, match 4 has turned the series more interesting. Aussies have made a hard come back by knocking down England with an innings win. England opted to bat first had very hard time with the bat. Out of 11, nine batsmen scored less than 4 which lead to a very low total of 102. Aussies had a great bowling figure with Siddle getting 5 for 21 and Sclark 3 for 18. Australia did well with bat too getting a huge score of 445 with included North‘s brilliant 110, Ponting, Mclarke and Watson each getting an half century. England bowled out soon by day 3 with a score of 263 with Broad’s 61. Australia won the match 4 by 80 runs and an innings. Australia had gone to the safer side by making the series 1-1. The series is hot now with the last match deciding who is going to win the title. Check out ashes match 5.

Ashes 2009 match 3 – Bad weather puts pressure on Aussie



July 30, the ashes season, match 3 was expected to be mind blowing since Aussies have lost the previous match and they would look for vengience. But it was a disappointment for all the fans and Aussies as well. Due to bad weather conditions the game wasn’t perfect. Australia decided to bat first and scored 263 all out which included Watson’s brilliant 62. England bowlers had a good time with the ball Anderson took 5 wickets for 80 runs and onions got 4 for 58. England did well with bat as well with all the players contributing a good score flintoff, strauss, bell and broad contributing half century each they managed to get 376. Aussies second innings was far better than there first innings, they got a score of 375 for 5 with Clarke’s brilliant 103, Who was declared the man of the match. Though the Aussies managed to come up well in the second innings the match draw have put up a lots of pressure on them. They got to win both the matches to win the prestigous series or atleast win in one to retail the title. Will they do it?? Check out for the ashes 4th test.
