What a tournament so far!! The two semifinal matches have ended deciding who the two fortunate beings will be to enter the finals of the last WTA Sony Ericsson championships at Doha. In the 1st semifinal Serena Williams beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 0-1retired. Wozniacki had played really well in the 1st set taking a 2-0 lead breaking Serena’s serve in the opening game itself! Again in the second set she broke Serena’s game but she couldn’t continue playing due to abdominal strain and retired thus making way for Serena into the finals. HAMILTON TAKES POLE FOR ABU DHABI

ITTF ENGLISH OPEN 1ST ROUND

PRACTICE FOR ABU DHABI F1

The last race of Formula1 for the 2009 calendar is to be held at Abu Dhabi in the Yas Marina circuit on the 1st of November. The practice sessions one and two were held here on Friday. The hot day was further brightened up by the brilliant pacing of former champion Lewis Hamilton from McLaren and the current to-be champion Jenson Button who is leading the F1 standings at 89 points. INDIA THRASHES AUSTRALIA IN 2nd ODI

The second ODI in the seven match India Australia series took place in Nagpur yesterday on the 28^th of October. The 1^st one was won by Australia and it was leveled by India’s win. Australia won the toss and captain Ponting elected to field. With amazing play by Gautam Gambhir and Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the side had lost three wickets before reaching the score of 100, the target set to Australia was an enormous 355. Dhoni struck a brilliant 124 in just 107 balls. Gambhir scored a good knock of 76. The other top scorers were Suresh Raina who hit 62 and Virender Sehwag who hit 40. The final score was 354 for seven wickets. Australia’s Mitchell Johnson took three wickets for his side. The Australian innings was not as splendid or good enough to beat the tough score and they were all out giving India a 99 run win.

ARSENAL BEATS LIVERPOOL IN 4TH ROUND

The Carling Cup fourth round match between Arsenal and Liverpool was one of Arsenal’s most excellent performances. BADMINTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

The first ever World Championship event to take place in India was the BWF Badminton Championships between the 10^th of August and the 16^th of August. In spite of teams and individual players backing out of the contest due to security reasons and threats, the championships went well. Players from India, Denmark, Austria, People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong and Malaysia took part in the Championships. The matches were held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli located in Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In the men’s singles event Lin Dan from China and fellow countryman Chen Jin entered the finals after defeating Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Taufik Hidayat, both from Indonesia, respectively. In the finals Lin Dan beat Chen Jin 21-18, 21-16. In the Women’s event Lu Lan from China won the title after beating Xie Xingfang also of China with score 23-21, 21-12.

The WTA Sony Ericsson championships which is the year ending contest for the 2009 WTA tour started in Doha yesterday. The Day 1 of the contest did not have any kind of surprises. Elena won the match 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. Today’s matches will be between Jankovic and top seed Safina and between the Williams sisters.

THE ALL WOMEN PRAGUE OPEN
