How To Make Sure You Are Getting The Best Equipment For Your Kitchen
Shopping for things online is not always the best option. On the positive side then you’ll often find the best prices online as sites compete for your business, and also the best selection too. That is all good, but one major negative you have to contend with is that you don’t actually get to see the product in real life before you buy it, you are basing your decision off some text and a small picture, so it might be quite different to what you expect when you get it. If the item you are buying doesn’t have a function or has a silly function, then you don’t mind too much if it doesn’t work the way you expected, but for things in the kitchen like a rice cooker or pressure cooker then that is a different story.
That problem is why I think review websites are so useful at the moment. A good site will have possibly hundreds of reviews on all the different equipment you could want for your kitchen, from skillets to spatulas, and have advice on choosing the best rice cooker or how to find knives that stay sharp for longer and so much more. The sites where normal people can sign up and leave their own comments about the item are popular right now, and it is nice to have a lot of different points of view on an item, however you have to be careful about fake reviews that are added and/or biased ones.
On the other side of the spectrum you have sites like FriendlyCookware.com which don’t allow any reviews from normal people and instead just have a review by a member of staff about which items they like and what they think of them. I like both different styles of websites, but I think if you are spending a lot of money on something then you are probably going to be better off with a site that only uses one reviewer. That way if you like the advice and if the product they selected turns out to be one you love, then you can keep going back to the same site for advice on other equipment too.
One site that people seem to forget about when they are searching for advice on what to buy is Amazon.com. They have their own feedback system which allows people to leave reviews on products, although bear in mind that they don’t have to have purchased the product to leave a review. Once you click on an item then in the description it usually tells you how well the items sells compared to others in the same category, and if you click that category you can get a list of all the best selling items in it according to the Amazon.com sales figures. That gives you some extra data to work with, now you know what the customers think of an item and how well it is selling compared to similar items from other companies, and if an item is a best seller and has great feedback then it must be doing something right.
Or you could just nip down to your local store if this sounds like too much effort and buy something from them! However while it can be a pain sometimes then I have found it really helps me to make the right choice when I spend just 10 or 20 minutes researching my options online and seeing what is selling well and what is getting the best feedback.
